Spinal Stenosis - What Are Your Chances of Getting It?

spinal stenosis

Chances of you developing this condition are if:

1. you are elderly.

2. you are experiencing degeneration.

3. you have anything that encroaches upon the spinal canal

4. if you have spurs

5. you have distortion around the vertebral joints

6. you have a herniated disc.

7. you have Paget's disease. This disease causes abnormal growth along with distortion of bones and fluoridosis which is due to excessive fluoride. This can actually thicken bone and end up being a contributing factor to stenosis.

8. if you have any scarring and other postsurgical problems.

Should you be experiencing any of the following symptoms, see your doctor:

* Substantial back pain

* Lower extremeity leg pain along with weakness when walking.

* Pain, weakness, pins and needles sensation, coldness or loss of feeling in your limbs.

With Spinal Stenosis the pain usually becomes more painful with time. If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, see your physician promptly.

Stenosis Treatment Consists of:

* Lying on one's side with hip and knees bent

* Taking painkillers, anti-inflammatory medications

* Wearing a corset or brace

* Taking aspirin tablets along with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

* Wearing a spinal brace

* Riding a stationary bicycle

* Using a pushcart when you are out and about

* Avoiding standing too long.

* Avoiding sleeping on your back without pillows beneath your knees

If these treatments fail, surgery may be the answer. My father went through this agony for years. If only we had today's technology back then. I remember his pain quite well. Fortunately, with today's technology -- there is so much more that can be done to help.

I personally know about Spinal Health Center located in Pittsburgh, PA who specializes in spine pain and related injuries. The Center focuses on alleviating pain and stress with the latest technologies. Their patients include those with joint pain, neck and back pain, headaches, sciatica, and more.
